Innovation in Academic Institutions, a Review of the Scientific Literature
Keywords:
academic institutions, innovation, innovation capacity, universities, local developmentAbstract
Innovation performance is widely acknowledged as a factor of business performance. However, this capacity continues to get little attention in universities, in spite of its relevance. The above is corroborated with the results of this paper, whose aim was to review related scientific literature in the 2000-2014 period. The primary source of information was collected from Elsevier´s ScienceDirect. The article references identified totaled 100, and the data analyzed were annual productivity, authors, institutions, and key words. Content analysis helped single out the following fields of research: innovation in teaching, university-company collaboration, perception of innovation in universities, and innovation in university performance assessment. A limited trend was observed in the publication of related articles. Innovation in academic institutions can be considered a research niche in Latin America.
