Abstract

A synthetic index was assessed to provide information -from the demographic point of view- aiming decision-making of municipal governments for creating development strategies. It was corroborated the absence of this kind of index, both international and national   stages.   It   was   considered,  in  order   to   determine   this   specific   Local Demographic Behavior Index (ICDLe, Spanish acronym) the behavior of demographic variables  and  population  aging,  both  from indexes  that  can  be  established  and  or calculated in two years (mostly on census) for a specific municipality. Such index allows, through a single value, to observe the behavior in both demographic variables and population aging and its impact in municipalities development. This research constitutes a step forward in the relationship population-development.
