A Diagnostic of the Current Situation of Regional Tourist Destinations

Aim: To diagnose the current situation of regional tourist destinations in face of the complex scenario caused by the COVID-19 crisis.
Methods: The theoretical methods used were the analytical-synthetic, to process information based on the bibliography consulted; and the historical-logic method, to study the predicted changes in regional tourist destination management and the tourist demand. The empirical method used was documentary review, needed to study national and international research.
Main results: The destination describes the general behavior of regional tourist destination management, through prior and posteriori analysis of COVID-19. It also suggests ideas on which to base this management, depending on the new normal. Conclusions: The crisis caused by COVID-19 entailed a before and an after in tourism.
The change of visitors’ behavior must lead to a change in the way tourist destinations are managed. The diagnostic of the current situation was necessary, evidencing the need for new more innovating, responsible, and safe strategies.
