Abstract

The causality of relations suggested between four roles of human resources and their value for the company was analyzed, as Chilean mining faces productivity and competitiveness challenges that must be overcome. The roles embraced by the human resource management were evaluated from the union’s perspective. Statistical demonstration was made and the suggested hypotheses were accepted, and the role of interdependence was corroborated. In addition to it, human resource professionals must have proper leadership and competences to provide continuous management of the four roles identified. Clearly, it is a necessary, but insufficient condition, because the executives keep concentrating company power in the great Chilean mining business. Hence, human resource managements must improve performance, since only 70 %-80 %  of  each  role’s  requirements  is  met,  which  generates  discontent  and  blocks personal efforts to overcome the challenges posed by their own companies.
