Determining a Local Demographic Performance Index

Abstract

A condensed index providing demographic information to local governments for decision making associated with the elaboration of a development strategy is presented. To this end, demographic variables performance as a whole and population aging were taken into account. This index constitutes a step forward in population-development interrelation by allowing the assessment of demographic variables performance and population aging impact on municipal development through only one value. Such index supplies a significant information to elaborate a local development strategy.
