Abstract

Rural tourist development was studied, taking into account entrepeneurship as a development factor in the Tachina Parrish, province of Esmeraldas, Ecuador. Structural analysis was applied as a diagnostic tool. Nineteen internal and external variables were identified. Social variables were identified as well. The cause-effect-problem-solution matrix was applied as a tool to manage entrepeneurship activities. Local entrepeneurs were observed to have limited access to bank credits, and they start their activities with their own resources. Their initiatives are therefore weak due to the lack of various elements that affect viability. Tourism is detached from the local arrangement and the Good Life Strategic Plan (Plan Estratégico del Buen Vivir), thus reducing the potential for local tourism development.
