Abstract

Aim: To analyze from the theoretical-methodological point of view the contribution of urban agriculture to urban sustainability and food sovereignty through the territorial planning process.

Methods: The analysis, synthesis and application of documentary analysis of research carried out internationally on the subject investigated was used, as well as the study of plans and methodologies of territorial planning in Cuba.

Result: The importance and relevance of uniting the agrarian and urban debates as a need to plan urban agriculture to contribute to urban sustainability and food sovereignty was verified.

Conclusions: The territorial planning of the AU with an agroecological approach contributes to a great extent to urban sustainability and food sovereignty. Insufficient participation of urban agriculture in urban planning instruments is evident. The territorial planning process demands indicators of urban agriculture with an emphasis on urban sustainability and food sovereignty. The territorial planning process lacks specific methodological approaches where agroecological urban agriculture is the fundamental pillar for sustainability and food sovereignty.
