Results and Perspectives of Sugarcane Agri-industrial Redimensioning in Cuba

Abstract

The redimensioning process of sugarcane agrindustry in Cuba was assessed. To this end, the author introduced two dimensions into the overall analysis: First, the output performance in relation to this sector potential production from 2002 up to 2010 and, secondly, an evaluation of the most significant efficiency indicators in the last harvest seasons. Conclusions state the insufficiency of the current redimensioning process and offer a proposal for the reorientation of the implemented redimensioning program toward a new plan of actions to make Cuban sugarcane agrindustry more competitive.
