Main factors limiting female farmers to reach a managerial position in the agricultural field in Camagüey province, Cuba, were assessed. To this end, a study comprising twelve agricultural cooperatives was carried out from 2006 through 2009. A combination of case studies from a sex perspective, the application of quantitative and qualitative techniques, and an analysis from different information dimensions resulted in an original methodological proposal. Statistical analysis was performed by the SPSS professional statistical package. A number of factors (material and cultural ones) hindering women’s involvement in production process management and livestock economic development were determined. The few female executives work under disadvantageous conditions compared to their male partners due to prejudices and lack of qualification, among other factors. Meeting schedules also limit female involvement. Findings can be a useful guide to solve female problematics in agricultural cooperative management.
