International and national criteria evidencing the need of strengthening those tools for sustainable local development managemente based on tourism are presented. Nowadays, tourism is among the industries contributing the most to developing countries growth and, in many cases, it constitutes the fundamental economic basis. Consequently, once territories have determined the role of tourism as a way to devise, fulfil, or implement their strategy towards local development, wider aims comprising economic, social, and environmental sustainability should be enhanced. Planning and management of sustainable tourism development from a global perspective supporting the accomplishment of an inclusive scope by means of negotiations among those involved, i.e., local administration, branches, sectors, and the population are assessed on the basis of their coordination and collaboration as the main object for local development.
