        Abstract

Lack of consensus on the definition of quality is the main cause of conflicting and inconsistent  results  from empirical  studies, which  prevented  the  building  of  a  solid starting point for its analysis, and therefore to their management process as pursued outcome in any organization. This paper presents a conceptual and critical analysis of the quality category which enabled, from the recognition of a set of properties related to its meaning, to reveal its essence inside the production's social relations context, that is, as an economic category.
