The progress of business environmental education as a phenomenon is analysed, from a theoretical and historical point of view. International documents on the subject were reviewed, and the historical-logical method was used to analyze the evolution of the object of study. With the analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction methods, its main characteristics were specified and conclusions could be reached. A contribution of the research was the periodization of the phenomenon and demonstrating the need for a multidimensional approach in its conceptualization. It is concluded that: regardless of the fact that since the 1970s the need for business environmental education has been raised as a phenomenon and the progress made in its improvement, actions in this direction are still insufficient, and those focused on sustainable business performance are very limited. multidimensionally oriented.
