Abstract

A  methodology  using  the  Crossed  Impact  Matrix  (MIC-MAC)  was  designed  to evaluate the contribution of sustainable enterprise performance toward an efficient local development. The methodology was implemented at the Fiber-Cement Manufacturing Enterprise Armando Mestre Martinez from Santiago de Cuba. Methods applied to this end were the historical-logical, the analysis-synthesis, and the general-particular. Statistical and mathematical techniques were also applied. Results showed a negative environmental, economic, and social contribution to local development sustainability due to a deficient performance from this enterprise. Variables that affected the most were a high rate of environmental pollution, no implementation of a clean technology, absence of environmental investments, no expenses for environmental mitigation, neglect and unfulfillment of the environmental laws in force, negative environmental externalities, and a low level of environmental education.
